Year 8 Science Fair

In July Malmesbury School hosted its annual Year 8 Science Fair with best entries judged by the mayor, employees from Renishaw and REME, governors and senior leaders at the school. Students had to undertake a practical science investigation on a topic of their choice, sharing their hypothesis, approach to data collection and results analysis on an eye-catching display board. There was a fantastic array of investigations on show in the hall with themes ranging from the ‘stickiness’ of gecko feet to optical illusions to the forces behind skateboarding! All the students’ efforts were hugely impressive and we are immensely proud of how they demonstrated excellent team work and independent learning skills.

Covid Guidance and letter home

Since our last communication, we are seeing a rising number of Covid-19 cases in the local and school community, particularly in Year 9. We are in constant communication with Wiltshire Council Public Health team to identify close contacts and any additional actions required. As yet, we have not had to send a whole year group home to be educated but we will need to monitor the situation closely in the next few days and possibly respond to the rising number of staff who are required to isolate.

Whilst I fully understand this will cause anxiety amongst the Malmesbury School community, I can assure you all necessary steps are being taken to minimise risk to others, to cause the least disruption possible and to support all those affected

Please see this attached letter for full correspondence and guidance.

Science Platinum Mark

Malmesbury School is delighted to announce that its Science Platinum Mark has just been re-accredited with an extension until 2022. Congratulations to Gaie Peers-Dent, Senior Curriculum Leader Science, and her team for all the hard work involved preparing and submitting evidence. Headteacher, Rupert Moreton said ‘This award recognises the impact our innovative, stimulating and engaging science curriculum has on our students. The quality of teaching and learning is outstanding and engagement and outcomes continue to reflect this. The huge success of our YouTube science videos, with many international followers, demonstrates how inspirational and dedicated our science staff are. Well done to the team.
