What is The Duke of Edinburgh's Award?
A life-changing experience. An opportunity to have fun with friends. A chance to discover new interests and talents. A tool to develop essential skills for life and work. A recognised mark of achievement, respected by employers. The DofE is many things to many people, supporting generations to successfully navigate life.
At Malmesbury School there is an established and successful programme of students participating in the DofE Award at Bronze (Yr 9), Silver (Yr 10) and Gold (Yr 12).
There are four sections to complete at all three levels. They involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition. At Gold, there is an additional section, a residential. Students can use the Opportunities Finder on the DofE website to find a residential that appeals to them.
We have also appointed two Sixth Formers (Georgia and Violet) to complete a Young Leaders Programme. These individuals are being trained by the DofE directly online and at school through our DofE Lead to enable them to support our DofE provision.
Any young person can do their DofE. Achieving an Award isn't a competition or about being first. It's all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.
